Ayden met Brogan for the first time yesterday before I had to take him to feeding therapy. It was also the first time he had seen Allison since bedtime Sunday. The whole experience was a bit jarring for him. He didn't know what to make of Brogan. I sat down beside Ayden on the couch and held Brogan so Ayden could see him. He was a little curious at first, but as you'll see from the pictures, he eventually was looking for a way out.
When I tried to set Brogan down in Ayden's lap, Ayden just pushed him away. He was not interested in being that close. We think part of the problem was we kind of pushed Ayden into interacting with Brogan, rather than letting him do it on his own. I brought Ayden back to the hospital today. With no impending feeding therapy, Ayden was able to play in Allison's room (the curtain was especially exciting, as was relaxing on Allison's bed) and then check out Brogan when he felt like it. He stopped by to give him a look a couple of times. He even started to reach out for him once. That's a far as he was willing to take it, though.
Clearly, there's going to be an adjustment period for Ayden. For all of us, really. We expected that. We didn't think Ayden would like sharing the attention for a while. He was much less freaked out and visibly uncomfortable today, which is encouraging.
