We made this same photo into a canvas print for Ayden's wall. |
As mentioned in the beginnings of this blog, Ayden's name means "little fire." When one considers the trials our oldest son has been through (and all that is to come), his name seems a significant testimony to his perseverance and strength. Likewise, the image of the dragon conveys might, courage, and power.
And, if I'm honest, I just like dragons. There is just something bold and beautiful about the fantasy of a giant winged reptile. (Yes, I know they aren't real.)
I initially did NOT want a play area in Ayden's room, but it's been nice to have one for when Bryan and I do chores upstairs.
I couldn't completely abandon the storybook idea. This print depicts a boy reading a dragon book. Other details in the room include children's books about dragons.
I wish you could see some of the special pieces better in the pictures. For instance, the garbage can has a handpainted Pete's Dragon (Aunt Susan), and the window treatment (Auntie Courtney) have a brown scale-looking fabric.
Ayden has seemed to really enjoy his new room. He knows where his things are (he picks out his own socks and puts his dirty clothes in the hamper), and he relaxes well in his cozy chair...I wonder what crazy theme and decor I'll come up with next!
